Chook,
In 2000 I was not given 2 years to live but got a talking to by a massive amount of doctors as to the collision course with death my life style was leading. At the time I was working minimum 60 to 70 hours per week (owner of the company), pretty much a single parent since dad would not have nothing to do with kids plus most if the time he did not work, in a very abusive marriage and the list goes on and on Plus just diagnosed with cancer.
Well the diagnosis was my wake-up call
Kicked the husband out
Very nicely asked 1/2 of my clients to find someone else
Sold the 4 story colonial in the city moved into 1/2 the space in the suburbs (kiddies were not so pleased at first)
Kids transferred from the ultra high priced private schools to public schools
Mom spent a lot more time with her kids!!!
Then 10 years later retired earlier then I had originally planned. Now I am enjoying my grand babies every day.
As of the check up last month cancer free 17 years.

Todays WT, study with worldy kids if you can
by purrpurr inaccording to today's wt, jws are now encouraged to start bible studys with worldy kids even if their parents dont want to join in.
the wt suggests that the study should take place with the parent present or with another mature jw present.. the wt suggests that studying with the kid may make the parent eventually want a study too.. ...
in what situation would any worldly parent allow some stranger from a werid cult to come jnto their house and convert their children?

Would someone please post this article as I will not go to their website? Plus I have no clue how to find the weekly talks. Thank you.

JW Parents and kicking out their children
by NJ501 inis it a common practice for jw parents to kick their children out of the home, if the child doesn't want to be a jw.
(even though their not disfellowshipped they will still get kicked out for not going to meetings etc.??).
do other religions encourage kicking family members out this as well?

snare&racket,
Your post is perfect.
I was never a JW but worked with a youth group funny how we called them "kids" never abandoned them no matter what they did, gave them all kinds of support AND then called them an adult on their get this 20th birthday. Yeah you read that right no one is an adult in our book until they turn the ripe old age of 20. We hold hold their hands, get them help if necessary or just listen whatever it takes. Not one of our parents that I know of has kicked their kids out of the home.
As I have said in the past that sign should read:
Kingdom Hall
Men's Only Club - No Children or Women

More than 75% of the human genome may be 'junk' DNA.
by fulltimestudent inmaking little or no difference to our daily lives, comes the claim that most of our human genome is not functional.. dan graur an (evolutionary) biologist at the university of houston and other academics made the claim in a paper published in an online journal, genome biology and evolution.. the group's calculations suggest that not more than 25% of the human genome is functional - the rest is seen as 'junk' dna,.
see science dailys coverage of the report at: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/07/170714140234.htm .
coverage of similar research at the uk's oxford university (reported in the guardian aust.

I have absolutely no clue what you all are talking about as far as I am concerned this entire thread could be in a foreign language, none of it makes any sense. Over the past year I have attempted to understand some things about DNA for a personal reason but I have never been a science person.
All I know is we really need MORE people in this field, I was told after much research on my part and a wonderful one time poster on this forum who gave me a clue in the right direction. I need genetic mapping by a geneticist. Now there is the problem my doctors and I have jumped through hoops for the local university geneticist we need, we need, we need yet they still will not return phone calls to set up initial appointment. The university 4 1/2 hrs away says yes we will make the initial appointment 9 months from now. My doctors are up in arms because the current medication cannot be increased because it has reached toxic ranges. All substitutes have caused adverse reactions. Why is it so hard to get anywhere in this field? First none of my doctors knew anything about it. Now we have to play like hell to get an appointment plus supply them with ten tons of proof that the appointment and testing is necessary.

Darkknight,
Her brother is only 7 months older and he weighed 2 lbs 5 ounces. Mom and dad got pregnant before he even left the NICU. So we spent almost an entire year between the two kids in the NICU. They are both doing fine today. I have them or they have me 5 days a week, it just depends on who is in control. They are an absolute joy. So happy I could retire and be here for them.

More boring baby stuff and wife's first birthday
by Darkknight757 inhello just giving a quick baby update again.
we went for another growth scan yesterday which marks 26 weeks, 4 days and the genetics dr. felt that we needed to head to hospital for labor and delivery.
so as of now the wife is being monitored and the hope is she can stay until delivery which hopefully will be a few weeks.

Darkknight,
Lots of hugs and thoughts for you and your family during this time. Neonatal is the absolute best place to be for your little one.
I have two grandkids who spent a lot of time in neonatal, they are still small for their age but otherwise you would not know they had been there. My grandson weighed 2 1/2 lbs and his sister only weighed 1 1/2 lbs. They are very good at rearranging my family room furniture including the recliners and they are 2 and 3.
Please keep us posted.

What is the worst type of work or job you have ever had to do?
by stuckinarut2 inwe all need to earn a living.... so just curious, what is the worst type of work or job you have ever had to do?.

Never a JW. I worked full time while attending college full-time. This was in the early 70's when equal rights for women in the workplace was a huge issue. The company I worked for had a lot of federal contracts and they were getting threats that the contracts would be pulled if women did not start filling some of the management positions. Once I graduated I was promoted in less then 30 days to store manager in a field that is still primarily mostly male oriented. My immediate supervisor and his boss were not at all happy and made it their daily goal to make my life as miserable as h....!! The Rebel had just finished 4 business law classes and knew what the law so stated. I was taking none of their BS, one example was my immediate supervisor called and said he understood I was driving the company car to and from work. Yes. That is to stop immediately. My response, as soon as you have a revised contract on my desk with a $5,000 pay increase, it will stop and not till. He said he would call me back. He did and said I could continue driving the car. He continued this harassment for the next 6 months till I had enough, I told him to get on a flight and close this store at 9 PM tonight. My last supervisor for same company called not 30 minutes later asked have you put your resignation in writing yet? No. Then do not, the company wants to pay to move you to a new location, do not tell that jerk about it. I will call you tonight with the details. Also, expect a phone shortly from his boss. He was forced to retire in less then 6 months. I was not the only female store manager he was trying to run out.
So the next location they sent me to LOL, haha. I already had 4 years working for this boss he was great. BS in accounting, minor in business new location I was business manager for two locations. I arrive at the store. My boss is a district boss who oversees 20 locations. I call him after 2 days and suggest he calls me at home either in the evening or on the weekend. I spent the next 1 year and 6 months documenting one of the largest theft rings the company had on record. Heads rolled up two levels above the store. Store employees were getting death threats, one guy got a fork lift drove through his car. They were filing fraudulent property insurance claims (self insurance). I documented every last thing they did in a secret file so when the auditors arrived it was right there for them in black and white they did not have to search for a single piece of evidence.
Those were scary times.

Never a JW but my mother always called me a Rebel. In his parting words the "Elder" told me I was a Fighter and fought everything I disagreed with. BTW, both of them are right. I am very rebellious and a very good fighter when there is a good cause with a great track record.
So yeap Rebelfighter it is.
